July is Just Around the Corner!!!

Hello Everyone!

It has been FAR too long since our last post...but good news is that WE'RE BACK!  We've been busy this entire June getting ready for the BIG month of July...the time to scout out that great talent and find some future Holy Cross Crusaders!  We are so excited to get out to the gyms and watch some great basketball!

July is split into two recruiting halves so to speak, our First Half tournaments include:

The Gauchos Festival at FDU                                   July 6-7
Blue Chip Basketball USA Invitational at Penn St      July 6-8
OGBR Skills Camp in Columbus, OH                       July 6-8
USJN's Premier Invitational Midwest, Cincy, OH      July 6-8
AAU Nationals at Disneyworld                                 July 6-10
Run 4 the Roses in Lexington, KY                            July 9-11
Nike Summer Showcase in Chicago, IL                    July 11-15
Battle in the Boro in Murfreesboro, TN                     July 13-15
USJN's Midwest Summer Challenge in Chi, IL          July 13-15

So if any of you followers will be playing at any of these tournaments, keep your eyes peeled for the Purple we will proudly be wearing!  We're going to be working hard to find the best players that high school basketball has to offer.  Have to find some kids that believe in what Holy Cross Women's Basketball is all about: TEAM, FAMILY, TRADITION, SUCCESS.

Best of luck to all the athletes playing this month!! Play hard and have FUN!!!

A Holy Cross Basketball Player

A Holy Cross Basketball Player can come in any size, shape or color.  There is no common denominator except a love for the game and a desire to get the most out of her abilities.  She is not only proud of her strengths, but understands her weaknesses.  She is, first of all, concerned with the good of her team and knows that individual recognition will come through team excellence.

A Holy Cross Basketball Player has the enthusiasm of an evangelist, the discipline of a monk, the heart of a warrior and never, ever loses the honest and character of a small girl.

A Holy Cross Basketball Player appreciates the support of thousands of fans, but she is much more aware to the example she is setting for some small girl watching from the sidelines.  She is happy she scores a basket, but never forgets a teammate threw her the ball.  While she never lets up at either end of the floor, the other team is not her real opponent; it is the full extent of her potential that she is always playing against.  She lets the referees, with occasional assistance from her coach, do the officiating.

A Holy Cross Basketball Player is made, not born. She is constantly striving to reach her potential knowing that she will bypass other players who cannot withstand this quest for excellence.  She realizes that the challenges and competition of today's game will better prepare her for tomorrow's world.   She knows that the true measure of her performance is not recorded in wins and losses, but in how much of herself she has given to the game.

A Holy Cross Basketball Player never realizes when the odds are stacked against her.  She can be defeated only by the clock that happens to run out of time.  She is what a small girl wants to become and what an old woman can remember with great pride that she once was.

Greetings from Coach Gibbons

I am really excited about our new "blog page".  It is a great way to stay in touch with HC Women's Hoops.  The players are working hard in their post-season workouts on the court...and with Coach Keil in the Weight Room !   I am off to a dinner in Boston tonight that is honoring our President Emeritus Fr. John Brooks.  He is the one that hired me 27 years ago, so I'm excited to go to that at the Copley Hotel.   And our staff and I am looking forward to the Spring Recruiting weekend that's coming up.
Keep following YOUR Crusaders on this site !!

What is a Workout?

A workout is 25 percent perspiration and 75 percent determination. Stated another way, it is one part physical exertion and three parts self-discipline. Doing it is easy once you get started.

A workout makes you better today than you were yesterday. It strengthens the body, relaxes the mind, and toughens the spirit. When you work out regularly, your problems diminish and your confidence grows.

A workout is a personal triumph over laziness and procrastination. It is the badge of a winner - the mark of an organized, goal-oriented person who has taken charge of his, or her, destiny.

A workout is a wise use of time and an investment in excellence. It is a way of preparing for life's challenges and proving to yourself that you have what it takes to do what is necessary.

A workout is a key that helps unlock the door to opportunity and success. Hidden within each of us is an extraordinary force. Physical and mental fitness are the triggers that can release it.

A workout is a form of rebirth. When you finish a good workout, you don't simply feel better, YOU FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOURSELF.

Post Season Training

Hello! This is Coach Kristin Drabyn. After my first year here I can say that I really enjoy what I do and love my players (on my most days:)) They have been working really hard in this post season by hitting the weights, running, and working on their fundamental work on the court every day. As a young coach you can not ask for anything more! Next years games are being won or lost right now with how hard and smart we work. Stay tuned for more updates from our coaching staff and players! Here we go Sader Nation!
